With bug fixes, it depends what other changes it depends on.  I'm not familiar
with this particular fix, but if the code being changed by the fix has been
altered significantly between the version in IcedTea6 1.8 and the version in
IcedTea-Web, then backporting the fix becomes non-trivial and potentially
dangerous in terms of destabilising the codebase by adding new features. 
Likewise, providing the new IcedTea-Web with 1.8 also has its own dangers as it
is less well tested.

If you want to upgrade one component (Firefox), then you should expect to
upgrade other components that depend on it (the IcedTea-Web plugin).  The
version in IcedTea6 1.8 can hardly be expected to support a version of Firefox
that was released nearly a year later than it was.

Closing this as fixed as the issue is fixed in IcedTea-Web.
