In your case I'm not sure if cache was the reason. It seems moreover like some file conflict or I
don't know. Non of my attempts to reproduce ended by hanging - all by ended by correct error dialog.

The reason why not to clear cache automatically are offline stored jnlp apps. But I admit itw is
not correctly informing about those anyway.
So yes, some thinking in this direction will need to be done..
