Although I was never able to replicate the behaviour back then, and haven't
tried again in a while.

Backing out that change and restoring the call to hide the ProgressHandle makes
sense for 1.6. For HEAD, perhaps there is some more clever approach we can take
to implement the desired (IMO, anyway) behaviour. Maybe there's something in
the new Platform with its lifecycle management.</pre>
