I second that.  A well-written design comment adds big value to the code base, especially when it could require hours or days to figure out the design just by inspecting the code.

P.S. Some really smart people make it a point of pride not to comment their work:

We've all worked with folks like that, probably not quite as talented as Gauss...  Either be Gauss or comment your code!
