Hi Alex,

It sounds like you're asking about G1's Early Access status and are thinking about using it in 
production. I'd agree that the disappearance of the flag is a bit confusing, but the intention
is that it's still an experimental feature.
 
As the release notes for Java SE 6 Update 21 say at 
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/6u21-156341.html ,

"G1 continues to be available in Early Access [..]"

The release notes for later releases, including those for Java SE 6 Update 24 don't mention 
G1. Accordingly, its status is still the same - it's available in Early Access, 
so usage in production settings is neither recommended nor supported.
