Sorry i made a perhaps artificial and almost certainly unfortunate 
distinction between the cognoscenti and the hoi-polloi, here... the 
distinction
is hereby withdrawn :-)

Yes, that would work great (and indeed is the standard in most 
scientific tabular presentations).
