headless/ is not used when running in headless mode with 
CToolkit. Have you tried forcing XToolkit? That is

AWT_TOOLKIT=XToolkit java -Djava.awt.headless=true AppName

headless/ contains all the native code that is expected to 
work in headless mode, e.g. printing or image manipulation.
