A minor point: I think that's not so much a workaround as correct
behaviour.  Also,
all installed Java executables should be marked java_exec_t, like this:

happy:~ $ ls --lcontext /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-
-rwxr-xr-x. 1 system_u:object_r:java_exec_t:s0 root root 41000 2010-10-13 13:33 /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-*

This allows RWX mapping of memory pages.
