Is it finally time to remove the converters?

The JDK hasn't used the legacy converters for many years. They
were deprecated a long time ago and were originally due to be pulled out
in jdk6. The jdk6 plans were scuppered by at least JDBC driver that
insisted on calling into the* classes directly. A second attempt
in jdk7 also failed. Now that jdk8 is open for business then it seems a
good time to try again. So if anyone knows of any code that it still
using then now would be a good time to speak up.
