Yes, I agree. And it can easily be moved to the finally block, of course.
However, this:

         ExecutorService executor = ...;
         try (executor::shutdown) {

still looks a bit more attractive to me, comparing to `try (Closeable c 
= executor::shutdown) {`
Maybe one day ... :-)
