Yes, I think it could be the source of confusion.
In Firefox, I have the "Search for text when you start typing" option
selected (it's in the Browsing section of General tab). So that when I
start typing, Firefox automatically starts searching on the page. If a
link is selected, pressing Enter activates it. This feature works great
for navigating javadoc for JDK 8 for example.
So if the focus is not in the search box, “stealing” it for the Search
box could not be what a user intends.
