While i agree with you from my armchair, practically the API of java.beans is intertwined with the other API of java.desktop.
To answer to your question, java.desktop is separated in java.datatransfer, java.xml, java.prefs and the rest of java.desktop (see ),
so no you can not use java.beans alone.
