A couple of weeks ago, I asked the Web Group Lead if it would make sense to add links to wikis.oracle.com, the IRC channel, and the last announcement about the bug system to http://openjdk.java.net/groups/web/index.html. He agreed, but I haven't done the push to make these changes happen.
Of course, those changes don't address the redirect or left-hand side request which would make my changes less interesting/useful. I'd be happy to implement whatever makes the most sense.

There is http://openjdk.java.net/irc/, but how to get there from the main page is something I have no idea about :)
